  • I hadn't been back to Gallagher's for nearly four years and I took a chance that it was as good as I had remembered it. It is one thing to recommend a place to strangers and coworkers, and quite another to recommend a place to your *boss* and then bring him there. Never mind bringing HIS boss with you, too. No pressure, right? I made a reservation for part of our team following a long day of work at a conference in the Mandalay Bay. We needed to get out for some air and had spent nearly a week cooped up in the convention center. I thought I knew just the place and made a reservation online using OpenTable. Our table was ready at the reservation time, and our server, John, was fantastic. We were seated at the "chef's table" in the kitchen area -- which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on the restaurant and the people you're with. It turned out for us to be a good thing and we'll request that next time (it is a U-shaped booth that holds 7 people). Some of the people weren't as hungry, so they decided to split a steak and some appetizers. I just wanted the signature NY strip that I remembered. The place was crowded, and it took a little time to get the food, but I don't think we were ever left wondering or looking at our watches. If you're in a hurry, though, this may not be the place for you. Good takes time, so be prepared to be patient :) All of our steaks were cooked perfectly and the shrimp+grits appetizer was a group favorite. I'm not a shrimp person, but those "shrimp" were like little lobster tails! The side dishes were reasonable priced, and I recommend the mac and cheese with bacon in it if they have it. The peppercorn sauce was a few bucks more, but it was a nice accompaniment to my steak. There was enough to share, so I did, and those who tried it enjoyed it as well. Beware the fresh horseradish with the prime rib -- it is pretty potent. You'll have a big piece of meat, but be sure to save room for the toffee pudding... even if you have to share it like we did. For the quality of service and food, the price we paid was more than reasonable and we will definitely be back when we are in town again next year. Thank you John for taking care of us!
