I'm a cupcake fanatic. In every city I travel to, I make it a point to try every cupcake shop from Magnolia Bakery and Cupcake Cafe in NYC to Sprinkles in Vancouver.
I was excited when The Cupcake Shoppe opened years ago. I wanted to try all the flavours. A dozen cupcakes and $25 later, I was left disappointed. The cake itself was light but lacked depth of flavour. The "buttercream" tasted more like vegetable shortening rather than butter.
Next time I crave cupcakes, I'm making it myself.
