I have never been to The Weary Traveler but have always wanted to go as I have heard so many good things about it! So when my good friends from out of town suggested it for Sunday brunch, I was so excited!
Our reasoning for choosing: They open at 11:30 and still serve brunch. Great for late risers like us who want to avoid a 1.5 hr wait at other brunch locations. HOWEVER. Not sure it was worth it.
There were 4 of us who arrived as they opened. Ordered bloodies (delicious, but seemed weak) and waited for the latecomer in our party (me). When I arrived 20 min later. They had ordered an appetizer and seemed to have just gotten their drinks. 5 min later the server approached me casually and I ordered a bloody and a water. We also placed our orders. 15 min later I still hadn't received my bloody. I watched a few other tables who had arrived after us get their drinks. 25 min in, I had to go ask the bartender about my drink, turns out it was never ordered.
Note: my friends still hadn't received their CHEESE PLATE. Ordered before I had even got there.
45 min in, the cheese plate and friend's meal (ordered at the same time) arrived. Great blue cheese... But the other cheeses looked and tasted like they were something you could find in a ziplock at the grocery store.
I'm rambling. Moral of the story we ordered at 12:05pm on a Sunday. We received our food at 1:20pm with to-go boxes so my fellow diners could catch their rides back to their respective cities.
There was very little communication or explanation from our server about what was going on with our food, which felt like we spent most of the brunch wondering where our food was vs. enjoying our short time together. The server seemed very aloof and unaware of how hangry/ ridiculous it was to wait over an hour for eggs.
FINALLY. I received my 2 eggs over medium with toast, potatoes, and bacon.. Hoping it would be mind-blowing/ amazing. The eggs: overcooked and lukewarm. The toast: cold and without the preserves the menu stated they came with. The potatoes: a mixture of crispy and underdone with garlicky cheese.
I asked the server for the preserves, she gave me the options, I chose cherry. I was given pear. Mind blown.
They were not busy. I work at a brunch restaurant in Madison and I know busy. We watched many other tables receive their meals before us. They were not full. About half of the tables were unoccupied.
I am just so confused as to what happened here. It will take A LOT of bribing to get any of us back here. :/
