Classic Bait and Switch! The $1 signup fee offer is really $30!
My wife and I were going to join this week on the standard $39 signup and yearly fee of $39 plus $10 a month. However we each received an Email for a $1 signup offer. I tried to sign up online and couldn't for that promotion and when I called the 800 # I was routed to a gym location. The person thought it was last months promotion and I told her it said for the month Sept. She said bring it to the gym and they would honor it there.
When we showed them the Email at Greenway and Tatum location, the gym we wanted to join, they said that we had to join The Challenge' to get the $1 signup. That, in fact, would be a $30 signup.
We showed her that it didn't say "$1 signup fee when you you sign up for the Challenge." Or more honestly "when you sign up for the Challenge for $30." The girl at the desk checked with her manager and he confirmed that we had to join the Challenge To receive the $1 signup offer.
The Email did say. "Don't forget to ask about The challenge." as an aside. Which is no where near stating "It's going to cost you $30 to join anyway so you might as well pay the $38 signup/ annual fee and not be bothered with the Challenge."
Again we were going to join anyway but this bait and switch scam really just pissed me off so no thanks. No way to do business. After this I did not trust giving them my account number and routing number.
