| - If it weren't for the ridiculous popularity of my former favourite crossiant destination, Clafouti, I might never have found this little gem, conveniently located right across the street beside Trinity Bellwoods.
After sampling Nadege's offerings, I can confidently say that I will no longer be fighting the early morning crowds at Clafouti. Let's start with the food: the croissants are just as good, if not better. Nadege's croissants are flaky on the inside and crispy on the outside, and less greasy than what you'd find at Clafouti. Very close to what you'd get in Paris. So far I've tried the almond-chocolate and the classic butter. I'll be back to sample the other flavours asap. Nadege also offers a selection of beautiful multi-coloured/flavoured macarons (try the mocha!), sandwiches (my favourite is the turkey on a house-made bun) and espresso coffee. We enjoyed expertly prepared americanos, courtesy of the co-owner (his wife is the chef).
Nadege also gets big points for atmosphere- beautiful, minimalistic white displays, fully stocked (and re-stocked) with goodies throughout the day. The staff are polite and helpful. Seating is available so that you can enjoy your purchases at the store. You can also watch the pastry chefs work their magic through the big glass window that looks into the kitchen. Finally, Nadege conveniently takes debit and credit, which Clafouti does not.
