  • Just had an absolutely awful experience here. I was Facebook messaging the owner about setting up an appointment to cut and style my hair. She told me that for a perm retouch, cut and style it would be $100. I informed her that I hadn't had a perm in "about a year" and needed a "fresh one". After I clarified, I asked her if the price would STILL be $100 for a "new" perm to which she replied "yes". I came in for my appointment and when I sat in the chair she immediately started complaining about the pricing saying that she thought I was getting a retouch for the $100 price. I think she had second thoughts about agreeing to the price in the first place and was now trying to recover that money. No dice! I pulled up the facebook messaging to show her that I had in FACT informed her that I would need a "fresh" and "new" perm. IF YOU ASK FOR A "FRESH" COFFEE WOULD YOU EXPECT SOMEONE TO "TOUCH UP" YOUR CURRENT CUP OR WOULD YOU EXPECT A BRAND "NEW" CUP OF COFFEE?!!! I don't know how she wasn't able to get that. She said I should have told her I had "virgin" hair but excuse me - we aren't all hair professionals familiar with the lingo - the fact that I used the words "fresh" and "new" and "hadn't had a perm in about a year" should have been clear enough. Don't be mad with me because you agreed to a discounted price!! Anyway she kept going on and on about it making me feel like a crook - like I was purposely trying to cheat her the extra $25 for the perm. By the way, I could buy a $6 box perm and relax my hair myself - $95 for a perm is outrageous (the cut and style was $30 for a total of $125!) I became visibly upset because I was on an overdue vacation and was looking for a relaxing time getting a new hairstyle and instead I got this horrible customer service. Anyway, she then started making me feel bad for being upset! I had enough, I was so uncomfortable and I walked out! This is why black hair salons get such a bad rap - so unprofessional and try to milk you for every penny. She could've made at least $100 but instead ended up with $0. By the way I called (and was sure to be clear with) a hairstylist in Brooklyn who quoted me only $75 for the very same services! I've been to the stylist a couple years back and she does good work so this isn't cheap services for a cheap price tag. I'll save my $50 and go back there instead. The location of this salon is bad too - only 1 hour metered parking out front - like who only stays in the salon for 1 hour?!! There is a parking garage that cost $11 that I ended up going to. I think the owner will validate parking though - she gave me $5 (which didn't cover the total cost of parking). I wasn't even sure cause I was so mad and just wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. I will be leaving more reviews on other sites. The place was clean and quiet but expect to pay overprice for services. Do not facebook message to avoid the communication issues I had despite telling the owner in three different ways that I needed a brand new perm. What a joke?! I wasted my time, gas and money and only left there with a negative experience. Seems like she's had a number of celebrities stop by her place over the years - perhaps that the type of clientele that gets the decent customer service.
