| - I wish I had read Dayo's review up above before booking this hotel. I would NEVER have stayed there if I had, especially after seeing the photos included above.
When I think of the Ramada brand, I have expectations. In addition, I was expecting exactly what the amenities listed. I was expecting a really nice place. A "shoes off" type of hotel, as we say, especially for the the price I paid! (On Orbitz, it was $116.)
The place looks more like a MOTEL than a HOTEL, which immediately turned me off considering my expectations, the amenities, & the Ramada brand name! As it turned out, it was a bit of a hybrid which I've never seen before.
The pool's small size & dinginess immediately dashed my friend's hopes of enjoying a relaxing evening in the pool & hot tub.
Oh, for the record, reception does NOT look even remotely like the pic above. Maybe that's a different hotel!??! However, it does smell strongly of chlorine, if that's your thing. :P
The magnetic key cards took a minimum of 6 swipes to get the door open, but more like twice that number on average. It was just easier for one of us to stay in the room, while the other went wherever needed going, then to let the other in. Once in for the night, the deadbolt seemed fine, but the other bolt sagged on the door & wasn't even usable! That did NOT make me feel real safe!! Especially if you had driven down the back alley accidentally, to eventually get here. It looks like a scary area!
Having troubles with their free WiFi, I called the 800 number for help. They were great, however I learned that Ramada Limited 's download speeds for the ENTIRE hotel of 71 rooms is the same speed I have for 1 person at home!!!! The tech told me that the internet usage had been steadily increasing over the past hour or so & was only going to continue to build from when I called around 5pm something until about 8pm. He said this is the typical day to day schedule for internet use in the hotel.
In the morning, we found very much to our dismay that there wasn't even enough hot water for us both to wash our FACES!!! When we checked in they said they had no vacancy, but to have not even enough hot water to wash the faces of two women!??!?! So, showers were out of the question!! I was NOT a happy camper!! Not to mention, there was only ONE wash cloth!!
I will say this for them. If Yelp allowed it, I would give Ramada Limited a half star more simply for their bed & pillows. The pillows were feather; my preferred pillow type. The bed was good, really quite comfortable. (Maybe they invested in new beds since Dayo's review?) The bedding, sheets, etc, were all really nice, crisp, clean, etc. But honestly, those were the only new, clean, & nice things in the joint.
The bathroom tiling was cracked, broken. There's no way you could ever get that place clean. I was almost afraid to use the washroom!! The only visibly clean space, the only new anything in the place was the bedding. I'm actually kinda glad about the hot water, because I wouldn't want to stand barefooted anywhere!!
The next morning, my friend found the free continental breakfast had been well picked over by about 7:45-8am. The orange juice that I DID have was extremely tart. I did not go back for refills. :P
I have another trip coming up to Calgary, where I need to be in that area of the city again. All I know is that I am steering far & wide of the Ramada Limited. From now on, when I book a hotel online, I will be using Google maps & going all the way down to street view to see pictures of the hotels. I think THAT at the very least would have helped. That, and coming here to Yelp, rather than trusting the Orbitz ratings. Just thoroughly, thoroughly disappointing. All the more so, when THIS weekend I just stayed at a Best Western (In Olds, AB.) which I always thought wasn't a very top notch hotel. (I don't know why.) I just thought of it as a kind of ho hum type of place. But THIS experience is what I was expecting last week. Excellent!! (But that's for another review. :D )
Just a gross, depressing, place. I will never, never stay there again!! You've been forewarned!!! Ack!!!
