| - While it can be a bit chaotic, Dr. Gong and her staff have always been very accommodating. I have a severe case of Keratoconus, which is a degenerative disorder of the eye in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to more of a cone (football) shape than the more normal gradual curve (basketball) shape. Bottom line, it's a very inconvenient and somewhat rare condition to have. It requires hard contact lenses, and glasses aren't an option. When I moved to Phoenix a couple years ago, I spent a significant amount of time trying to find a reputable doctor who specializes in this condition. I found that while several doctors have it listed on their website, when I would get to their office for an appointment, I would quickly find out that they had antiquated equipment that did not have the capabilities to run a topography map on my eyes because my condition would be considered advanced.
Thankfully, I was referred by someone to Accent Eye Care. Admiringly, the first appointment failed to go as smoothly as I had hoped. They were very busy and I got stuck waiting for over an hour. They had the updated equipment, but I felt rushed. I left there thinking I would never go back. They sent me a survey after my visit in which I gave my candid feedback. Dr. Gong followed up with my personally, and scheduled another appointment with me in an attempt to make it right. She even offered to pickup the cost of my new contact lenses.
Fast forward over a year, and I've had a couple emergency situations in which my corneas have suffered chemical burns or abrasions. Dr. Gong had her staff have always been able to make adjustments to get me in ASAP, as this can be very painful. When removing my scleral lens I somehow managed to cause a severe abrasion to my right cornea. I can't accurately describe how painful that was. With my right eye out of commission, I was down to one eye. The staff got me in ASAP, and were able to help ease the pain with some numbing drops, and prescribed me some antibiotic drops. I went back the next day and they said things had improved, but the issue still existed. I'm going back for a follow up appointment on Friday in the hopes that I can leave there wearing my right contact lens again.
Bottom line - I would highly recommend Dr. Gong and her practice. She has another doctor working for her (I believe her name is Dr. Trin?) who is incredible. Very knowledgeable, comforting, and a great sense of humor. As much as I dislike having to go to the eye doctor for painful issues like that, at least Dr. Trin is able to make me comfortable and get me smiling and laughing. Great bedside (or chair side) manner. I am very thankful for Dr. Gong and her staff.
