Well this was unexpected!
A museum in a mall -- and not just any museum, but a museum dedicated to the Hungarian heritage in Cleveland.
The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, eager to answer questions not just about the museum specifically but about any and all matters related to the Hungarian-American experience.
I was a little disappointed there wasn't more on Cleveland specifically. I still can't answer why immigrants, including my own relatives, came to Cleveland rather than other communities. While I appreciated the Hungarian artifacts, I could get that elsewhere more or less. But still, the concentration of Hungarian memories and memorabilia in one site was a sight for sore eyes!
If you're curious at all about your Hungarian heritage, you owe yourself a visit to Cleveland and this museum is a great way to get started. Ask them about Farkas bakery and the many other chances to taste and touch Hungary while in Cleveland. They'll tell you about Balaton restaurant and places you might not have known about otherwise!
God bless those who work to keep precious memories alive.
