  • My husband thought it would be funny to spray the doggie peanut butter out of the can on Sadie's back to see if she would chase her tail trying to eat it off. She didn't, and her sister didn't fully lick it off, so as a result I needed to take Sadie for a bath. I planned on going to our regular go-to DIY dog washing place, Petco in Pineville, but I wasn't really looking forward to the drive and I was over at Shine Salon in Plaza Midwood visiting the owner, so I Yelp searched if there were any other DIY places closer and voila! Around the corner was Dog Salon off Pecan/Central! I walked in and was greeted enthusiastically by the staff and the owner helped me out with finding a Dublin dog collar that would suit/fit Sadie. She then, despite being a wee pixie, launched my 105 pound dog into a bathtub and showed me the right way to get out the undercoat and what to do for her dry skin. Usually at this point Sadie is shaking badly and whining. She definitely wasn't psyched to be there, but she was much calmer. In fact there were three dogs being groomed on tables behind us and none of them were freaking out or barking. The vibe is fun and not focused on stress at all. Fun music is blaring on the radio and I got the sense all of the groomers loved their job (and the dogs) which was a nice change from the sterile stiff environment of the chains. Since no one else was miserable, it helped Sadie keep calm. The cost was also good- $15 for a wash for over 50 lbs and on Sundays it's $12 so next time I'll come then. I will definitely be back with my other dog. Cute little boutique too! My only complaint? Minor- it just was that the tubs were at the back of the room, furthest from the windows and I could have used an overhead light to help see behind the dog which of course was trying to lean as close to the wall as possible. It just was a little dark, but I think I still got it all :)
