| - This place has the right flavors, best ingredients and just the right amount of urban swank decor to make you feel special on a Saturday night!
Not sure what has happened between now and July of this year but we had outstanding service and no flack at all was given because we did not have a reservation. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. The wine was delish. Food was prepared perfectly and arrived in a timely fashion. Our waiter was attentive but never pesty and he had great suggestions all night. We ate, we drank, we conqured!
The pizza is not your typical Pappa Johns or Grimaldis, and if you come into this establishment with those expectations then you will be disappointed. This is pizza made the Italian and European way. It's not laden in sauce. You'll find arugala, sweet red peppers and fresh bufala mozarella cheese as toppings. It is an absolute crying shame if you don't order wine while dinning, it's a crucial part of the meal. Due Forni is out of the box, gourmet even and sure to please the most sophisticated of palates
Appetizer:
Polipo..."Braised Octopus and Mint Vinegarette?' I asked hesitantly as I read it off the menu. But it was sure to be one of my favorite dishes of the night. I did not taste Mint at all in the dish, which in my opinon saved it! The salty and crispy Spanish Octopus tossed into a lighlty dressed arugala and pepper salad was just brilliant! Please don't leave without trying it.
We definitely made the mistake of ordering too much food. You can easily share a pizza and have just enough room for dessert. But instead we each ordered our own pizza, bottle of wine, appetizer and dessert! Yes, big fatties tonight.
Pizza:
Hubby ordered a Roman style, Due Forni pizza and I ordered the Tartufo pizza Neopolitan style. The Due Forni pizza had great flavor. Loved the homemade sausage. I also loved the little red peppers too. It's perfect for someone who appreciates a hefty meat lovers pizza. I can't begin to tell you how rich and decadent my Tartufo pizza was! The rich parmesan crema on top of the fontina cheese mixed with roasted mushroms, black truffles and the baked egg that gets broken on top is beyond incredible. I know it sounds unusual but to say it's delicious is an understatement and the neopolitan crust was soft enough to sop up the yoke just like a good breadstick!
We rounded out the night with a bottle of Volare(RED) to accompany the food and dessert. We then finished up the night with the dessert on special. It was a pancotta with ice cream and cherries with a balsamic drizzle. We used our groupon and waddled out the door and fell into a lovely food coma on our couch afterwards at home. I'd say all in all it was a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT night! ;)
