  • Howl-o-ween on 10/29/16 was a giant fail on the part of the zoo. The zoo had no staff or signage outside of the zoo to say their parking lot was full, and so hundreds of cars inched their way up Galvin Parkway, into the zoo lot, only then to be met by employees or security with light sticks saying the lot was full and turning people around and heading them out of the zoo. Their were alternate lots (like one right across Galvin Parkway) with signage saying "Zoo Parking", but it too was full and again there were no employees or signs anywhere around saying that no spots were available. So, you could waste more time snaking through a line to park only to find no spots were available. One of the women with light sticks in the zoo parking lot insisted there were signs up all over the place, but we had just missed them or didn't read them. After parking in one of the spring training lots and trekking to the zoo, I am absolutely sure there were no signs saying anything about parking unless someone stole every last one of them. Inside the zoo it was packed. I waited in line over ten minutes to buy drinks from a vending machine. We mistakenly ended up on the Walking Dead Trail because there wasn't any signage saying you were entering that venue. With a timid kid, this was the last place we wanted to be. The zoo sold way too many tickets to this event. I was surprised at how poorly organized it was. Compared to the Disneyland Halloween Party, the zoo needs to go back to Event Planning 101. The trick or treat trail was a little better, but then again we did it at 9:30 pm and the place closed at 10:00, and so I think by then a lot of people had already left. We will definitely not be attending this event next year. There was very little enjoyment in the evening, but lots of lines and confusion. I think we were more stressed at the end of the evening than when we went in. Boo to the Phoenix Zoo on this one!
