| - I love sushi. A lot. And I don't mean that I like california rolls, or ones with cream cheese and 14 sauces on them. I mean I like eating delicious raw fish and slightly seasoned rice wrapped in seaweed with hints of cucumber and maybe avocado. My favorite roll is a spicy tuna and my favorite place to get it is a tiny place in the middle of Indiana. But neither here nor there, the spicy tuna roll is what I judge all other places on.
Takumi's spicy tuna roll is perhaps the epitome of average. There is nothing wrong with it, but it's not amazing. It is like many other places, chopped up tuna mixed with a spicy mayo type sauce rather than a piece of tuna fish with sauce drizzled on top, but after so many spicy tuna rolls, I can't really fault them for doing it just like everyone else.
Other items I've gotten at Takumi are the Mango Cruise roll, the Rainbow roll, the Eel Cucumber roll, Miso soup and Edamame. All of these fall under the same category of perfectly average. They are all tasty, I enjoy them when I'm in the mood for sushi for dinner after work, and I would rather get sushi from Takumi than the local grocery store sushi bar.
The prices are fairly reasonable, you can get the basic rolls for around 6 dollars and the obnoxiously fancy ones can go up to 18 bucks. I often do takeout/delivery but I have eaten in once which was perfectly lovely. Very comparable to other small, Japanese restaurants that I have been to. They do have a sushi bar that you can sit at, but the place is so small you can observe the sushi chefs from nearly every seat in the restaurant. They also have hibachi grills towards the back, though I have never done that, nor seen anyone do it.
Overall, Takumi is great if you are looking for a quick, standard sushi meal without the hassle of going downtown or spending exorbitant amounts of money. They aren't usually terribly busy which means getting a table is a cinch, something that cannot be said for places like Red Sushi downtown.
