  • A few reviews ago I described the matcha cake ice cream shop that Uncle Tetsu operated here as useless and clearly the uncle took my advice and retrofitted it to sell Cheese Tarts. Now anyone who knows uncle knows his creations are different from what we in Canada call things/know things as. So the opening of his new cheese tart store doesn't mean he would be serving up the kind of cheese tarts we know. Indeed, these taste like his cheesecakes from next door just more concentrated. Aside from the delicious cheesecakes, er I mean cheese tarts, he sells matcha-cheese and chocolate-cheese tarts which again are just like mini pies. Stick with the cheese the chocolate tastes low quality. The other thing I had mentioned earlier about the uncle is how he is a very savvy operator and businessman (same as his Canadian partner). He shut down the Tsujiri-competing operation and opened this up just in time to compete with the Japanese chain now in Toronto called Pablo. The interesting part is unlike Uncle Tetsu which actually is not a business Japanese recognize (because there is no Uncle Tetsu chain in Japan!) Pablo is a bona fide chain so we will see what will happen. One thing this company has to stop doing is the false advertising. remember how the original location had a flyer on the window advertising 'farm fresh ingredients' when it was using carton after carton of Philadelphia Cheese? This location advertises 'preservative free' ingredients. Someone should tell Uncle what is inside his beloved Philadelphia cheese. One last thing, no Japanese employees here either and the packaging which is always a winner for Uncle Tetsu is similarly different and interesting here too.
