When buying an expensive car from out of state before seeing it, you need to have complete confidence in the seller. I have never bought anything more than some parts from long distance, so I was a bit nervous sending a large check for my dream car. Dealing with Alan Monroe turned out to be a great experience and I would have no hesitation buying another vehicle from him.
First of all, he is honest as the day is long. If he says he will do something, he will. Even after he has the money in hand. He paid to repair a leaking rack that was advertised as recently replaced in the ad when it turned out the repair done wasn't holding up. This was after the car was gone from his care, but he cared about doing the right thing.
He was very clear up front that this was a 25 year-old car that has 25 years of 100k + miles and it won't be perfect. He worked very hard to describe everything about the car so when I picked it up after flying in from San Francisco with my son there were no surprises and the car turned out to be better than I was expecting. He sent it off for a pre-purchase inspection at his recommendation, so I knew what was going on mechanically. I've seen other reviews elsewhere where it looked like the buyer was expecting a "new" car and was not satisfied when it looked used. Duh.
Bottom line is Alan will do everything to advertise the attributes of the car as best he can from a distance and will ensure his part of the bargain is fully covered. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a car from him, just be sure to be realistic with what you are buying - an older car.
