  • I bought two commercial fertilizer spreaders from Alpine in '13 (~$350 each). Both of the gearboxes started to slip after 4 months of service. The next year I bring them into Alpine to have it looked at as new equipment shouldn't fail like this. Without looking at the machines the "head-honcho" (as the other staff called him) told me: "you musta been usin them machines really hard; just buy new ones". A terrible sales tactic if I've ever heard one. I told him I wasn't going and I'd like the service department to fix them. They wanted to charge me $70 per machine to diagnose the problem (even though it was the same on both). Then I would have to pay for whatever new parts they recommended. The head-honcho said I'd need a new gearbox ($70); I knew the gears themselves were fine, it was the mechanism that wasn't aligned properly. I opted not to get them to fix the machines as this guy really just wanted to rebuild my machines with as many new parts as possible and give me a close to retail price on it when they finished. Also, the equipment here is overpriced. A quick google search of what your looking for will save you a lot of money (including shipping). (After buying my spreaders for $350 each I saw on amazon they sold them for $250ea. with free shipping) TL;DR: DO NOT GO HERE
