  • I guess with age and experience, the allure of Excalibur has completely faded and is essentially a sub-par hotel compared to the newer hotels on the strip. I do have quite a few fond memories at the Excalibur when I was younger. I remember being awed at the sight of the mystical castle with Merlin the Wizard standing atop one of the castle towers. While the parents spent their time on the main floor gambling, there was a fun kid center at the bottom floor filled with games. It was like being transported to another time and place. However, now that I am older and have to fund my Vegas trips now, the Excalibur is cheaper than most on the strip but even then would NOT be my choice for budget hotel. I booked a room at the Excalibur for my friends and me. When we got into the room, it was small and felt like it needed to be renovated. There was an underlying smell that could not be identified or extinguished despite our efforts. There are more updated rooms that were available but appears for a little more. The self-parking for the hotel was a little far from the hotel so it is not really convenient. Plus, reasons to like it for nostalgic reasons are gone. The Merlin that once stood there has been replaced by a billboard and the kid center is not so friendly or as extensive as it once felt. It was good to know they still have the Tournament of Kings show where you get to see dueling knights fight each other for the crown. Although at $60+ price tag, I am not sure I would be willing to shell out the money simply to reminisce The one major perk of the Excalibur is the location. Considering its price tag, it has a decent spot to most of the nicer parts of the Vegas strip. Plus, it does have a monorail that takes you to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. However, somehow this perk is not enough to justify the poor upkeep of the facilities. Overall, I would say that Excalibur lacks the magic of most of the hotels on the Strip making it a lower tier recommended hotel.
