| - Ate here last weekend with my boyfriend and another couple, and we were all very impressed with the quality of food. My boyfriend and I split the margherita pizza and a shrimp and arugula pizza, while our friends split a salad and a pizza with a lot of meat toppings.
The pizza at Pomo is made in the Neapolitan tradition (one of only two pizzerias in Arizona that are certified to do so), so it's crispy on the crust, and soft on the inside. This was especially true of the margherita, which had dough so soft in the middle that paired nicely with the creaminess of the mozarella.
The shrimp and arugula pizza might have been my favorite, however. The dough wasn't quite as soft as the margherita, and the shrimp's flavor was brought out by the arugula.
I had a glass of pinot grigio, which was a little sweeter than my liking, and the rest of the table had beer that was on special -- $2 for watermelon beer! I definitely would recommend ordering some if they still have it, as it was a nice summery treat.
Before we left, one of the owners came by with a shot of this creamy, cinnamon-flavored Everclear, and a plate of fried dough topped with powdered sugar and Nutella. Although this seems to be his schtick with all the diners, it was a sweet and appreciated gesture, not to mention tasty! We had to hang out at the restaurant after drinking the shots because they were a little on the strong side, but so delicious.
The only reason I've docked a star was due to our service. Our server was too attentive -- every couple of minutes she was over to ask how food was/to see if we needed anything, and then when we would tell her we were fine, she would just stand there. Staring at us. For like a minute. So totally bizarre.
