  • The food was somewhere between mediocre and decent. Nothing was fantastic, nothing abysmal--somewhere around a 3-star rating. We had two types of seafood pastas, and both were rather bland. The bread and olive oil was fine. For dessert, we ordered the panna cotta based on the good reviews of it here, but I don't get the hype. It was very ordinary with practically no flavor. The servings were not huge, especially for the price; unlike at other restaurants, we finished with no leftovers at all. For one of the seafood pastas, which was supposed to come with crab, we ordered it with added shrimp. It did come with shrimp, but no crab. Instead of adding shrimp, they substituted the crab for it. It's not a huge deal, but it is not what we wanted, and we did not want to wait for a replacement so just dealt with it. I assume the error was because of a language difference, as it was difficult for us to understand the waiter, and the reverse must have been true as well, I suppose. That glitch would drop my rating to 2 stars. One other odd note before the reason for the 1-star rating. The restroom is evidently a secret. For some reason, the door leading to the area were the restrooms are located is not labeled at all. It's just a plain white door at the back of the restaurant. Only after you go through the door do you see that the restrooms lie down that hall. During our meal we saw no fewer than 3 people walking about quizzically, finally having to ask where the restroom is. It is baffling why they don't just put up a label or sign. They must field these questions all night long from people who don't know where to go, and it seems like an easy 5-minute solution. I guess you have to be "in the know" to use the facilities. The real problem came at the end, when it was time to pay. I had never been to the restaurant before but had been intending to try it. (The hostess even asked us if this was our first time there, and we confirmed yes. So, from the beginning, they knew this was their chance to make a good impression on a first-time guest.) The main reason we visited this first time was a restaurant.com deal that appeared a few days earlier (a $25 voucher for purchase of $50+). We exceeded that $50 requirement, but the server came back saying they would not honor the voucher, saying they don't know why this voucher is on restaurant.com. Listen, I don't know where the miscommunication was between them and the website, but I know one this for sure: it wasn't my fault. I came there in good faith, only because of that voucher. As a measure of goodwill, it seems a restaurant would go ahead and honor the certificate, especially given that we were spending a fair amount anyway and it was our first time there. But no, they would not honor it and made no concession at all. They got me into the restaurant with this offer--regardless of how it got posted--but then allowed it to become an unresolved awkward situation. Even something small like comping dessert or the after-dinner drink would at least have shown some effort and would have acknowledged that this is not what we bargained for. (For what it's worth, we eat out 5 times a week, often spending more than $1k per month on restaurants, so a nice gesture at this point easily could have ensured we would visit again soon; instead, the opportunity was squandered.) As a post-script, I emailed restaurant.com about the incident that night, to which they replied that the restaurant "does have an agreement with Restaurant.com that they will accept all certificates sold." Somebody obviously messed up here. It was not I, but I'm the one who ended up paying in the end. The restaurant at least could have made a small gesture, or better yet could have stood up to be outstanding, but they failed. That is the very definition of bad service in my book. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth (pardon the pun) so I won't be back. There are plenty of other much better restaurants in town that offer legitimate deals, so I will henceforth skip this place.
