According to the Parks and Rex office of Phoenix, "Dobbins Lookout, at 2,330 feet, is the highest point in the park that is available to the public. Accessed by both hiking trail and by Summit Road, the lookout is popular with tourists, and locals alike, who want to get an unobstructed panoramic view of the valley." Translation: it's the highest place you can stand on the South Mountain Reserve and you can hike there or drive there. The hike is 4.1 miles and the drive is up a narrow, windy road. We opted to drive (mainly because we didn't know about the hike). Thank goodness that my bf was used to driving these roads because I wouldn't have made it up. Once you're there it's a pretty nice view. There's plenty of people so they will take photos for you. The rock structure is cool but you're better off walking to the edge and taking photos of the panoramic view. All in all, quick way to get a great shot.
