What was once in my opinion the premier Y in Charlotte has become a joke - a horribly timed and distasteful joke delivered by a self-anointed comedian who paid off a few audience members to laugh. I have the greatest respect for most of the staff, who are friendly, helpful, and most importantly, real. Unfortunately, the addition of one disrespectful, micromanaging, self-important outlier and the sudden appearance and enforcement of several asinine rules has ruined what was a great place to work out. This certain employee has no respect for the members. I had finished a set on the chest press and walked literally five feet over to get a drink of water, only to be immediately harassed and told to put the weights away. When I informed her that I had several sets left and would indeed rack the weights when I was finished, I received a condescending, wide-eyed nod and a stern "you make sure you do that." She has heckled others in a similar fashion, many of whom I have known for years as mindful, pleasant people. Her other habits include glaring at members for no observable reason, disturbing people using the row machine to inform them that they have five minutes left, and being an all-around blight to people who have had a long day and just want to exercise in peace. This person judges people as inherently bad, while thinking she herself can do no wrong. Now, onto the asinine new rules. The most recent new rule is that you cannot bring your bags onto the workout floor. They must be stored in the lockers, which have been broken into and pilfered on several occasions in the past month alone. This is apparently much safer than having your bag with you where you can watch over it. The second rule cannot be denounced enough through words alone. My wife enjoys walking around the track while curling light dumbbells, and I enjoy the occasional farmer's walk. These basic exercises are now banned. But wait, there's more. You can no longer even sprint. As in run fast. On the track. Luckily, you can still sprint far away from the Morrison Y and never come back, which is what I will be doing.
