Despite the attitude of one head barista, and the weird loyalty program, I highly highly recommend everyone to visit coffee island. The bar is kind of low in Toronto for coffee since sense appeal closed two years ago, however coffee island really does have the best coffee in the city. I've tried a few brews from them using various methods: siphon, aeropress, pour over and regular drip coffee. All excellent - they are indeed master baristas. So I'll ignore that one person's pretentious attitude. Their pastries were all great. I buy my beans from them. Sadly they are not roasted in Toronto, but flown in from Greece. I was told they are looking for local roasters. In the meantime though, be careful when buying beans to make sure the beans were from a recent flight. The first time I bought beans - it was a month old!!!! For $10 for 1/2 LB that's kinda theft. I'd give them for that 4.5 but yelp doesn't allow for half points, and for being the best coffee in Toronto they get the whole 5 star.
