My experiences with this department are from actually volunteering at the police department and I have a close relative who has worked there for 9 years. They have a sergeant and detective in HR who seek very young applicants or those without too extensive of a history (jobs, moves, schools, etc...). If you have a child with an officer or were previously married to one, you will be thoroughly dragged over the coals by one female detective there. It's probably a personal problem for her. This type of hiring decreases their workload. This type of selection sometimes results in great employees and sometimes, not so much. Do you want a 21 year old with no work or life experience helping you or someone with a little more practical life experience? This profession should focus on hiring people who posses empathy, just my opinion. I found that at the precinct where I volunteered, you had great officers/employees and bad, really bad ones. The police department is short staffed and has a questionable hiring department, so the level of service the public will receive is hit or miss. Make sure to commend the officers/employees that give you great service and report the ones that do not.
