"In town visiting for a weekend, I asked a girlfriend who is living there locally if she wanted to check out a barre class before grabbing coffee on a Saturday morning.\n\nI tried booking the class on the MindBody app, but it said to call the studio. I thought maybe there was an issue with the app, so we just headed in, about 20 minutes before class began so we made sure we had enough time to sign up/pay.\n\nWhen we got there, the friendly receptionist informed us that the app said to call the studio because the class had been booked. Granted, I probably should have listened to the app and called (but who calls places nowadays?) -- but I wish the app had just plainly stated that the class was full.\n\nThe receptionist said not to worry -- that we should just fill out the intake forms and wait until just before the class started to see if any spots opened up (aka no-shows). So, about 1 minute before the class began, the receptionist said there were 2 spots available and we could rush in and join the class. \n\nHere's where my real disappointment came: the class was PACKED. I mean, there were so many women in there that there was barely any room for you to move, let alone do exercises like in barre that require personal space. I was given a space in the back corner of the room. Meaning, there was a woman directly next to me on the left, parallel to my space, and another woman on another bar to my right, perpendicular to my space. I spent the entire class trying to move from position to position in a way that I could still somehow complete the movements without hitting the person either to my right or left. But, the problem was, no matter how careful I was, I still ended up tapping either one of the women with my arm or leg movements. I had to keep trying to position myself in a different way -- none of which worked -- because there was simply not enough space in that cramped corner. I spent more time trying to move around or make sure I wasn't hitting other people than I actually spent doing the exercises, getting to do only a few of the full set of reps of each movement; hardly a good workout.\n\nTo make matters worse, the exercise mats that they put at every station for each person to use are only HALF the length of a standard exercise/yoga mat. I am 5'10\", (which only exacerbated my space issue), so in trying to make sure that I didn't whack either woman next to me or in front of me, I had to somehow try and keep moving the mat either forward or backward, based on whichever exercise we were doing in the moment, in order to have my knees on it or my back on it and try to be comfortable.\n\nAll in all, they packed the class in way too full. And those exercise/yoga mats are way too small, for even an average height person. I'm sad I didn't have a good experience because I was really looking forward to a good workout while on holiday visiting family (which as we know is a lot of sitting around and eating delicious foods). And, the class was $23CAD to boot. Not worth it at all, from my experience.\n\nThe studio itself (front desk area) and two studio rooms were bright and airy and the receptionist staff were friendly. But it would be great it they could limit class sizes so everyone has enough space to move around and get regular-sized mats to not make people shuffle around when they should be doing the exercise."^^ . .
