Last Sunday night our 7month old Frenchie lost proper use of his rear legs and was dragging them around without any reason or warning. Just POOF, one minute fine, the next, in excruciating pain and unable to walk.\n\nMy girlfriend and I were heartbroken and very afraid.\n\nWe went to a local after hours ER in our area and they did what they could to assess the situation, but when they realized this was a deeper issue than they were able to handle and that surgery may be a reality they made a recommendation that we trek it out to Guelph OR pay a little more money potentially and visit TVEH. WE agreed to head to TVEH and they called ahead to bring in a Neurologist who was on call to be ready when we arrived to look him over and if needed take necessary steps\n\nAround midnight we arrived, Opie in pain, unable to stand/sit/lay - it was awful. We were admitted quickly and assessed by the on hand veterinarian. Soon after initial assessment, Dr. Campbell the neurologist arrived and took over. He was awesome, while the other Vets and techs we had chatted with were nice, Dr. Campbell looked at the situation with cautious optimism and labeled the situation not as bad as he had feared.\n\nInstead of rushing into a surgery, and understanding how expensive this procedure would be, he said he didn't see any harm in having them observe him over night and reassess in the morning. Come morning he called us and said Opie had regained some movement and was more comfortable without any pain medication. He said we could bring him home or have them continue to monitor him for another 24 hours - we opted for the latter.\n\nBy the next day our little guy was at about 95% of normal and able to come home, just to be placed on restricted movement (must stay in his crate except when going outside) for 4 weeks. \n\nDr. Campbell was extremely patient, sensitive, optimistic and kind throughout the process and did not only what was best for our fur baby but what was manageable and realistic for us with regards tocosts (thank GOD for pet insurance - seriously, get some). The initial estimate was about $8000 and we walked away only paying about $1200 which will be reimbursed by our insurance company.\n\nWe'll be heading back in 4 weeks for a follow up appointment so I assume this review will stay consistent or exceed my current experience. If your fur-baby is sick, this is the place to be!\n\nThanks team!"^^ .
