"0"^^ . . "I live in TO but have been travelling out to Burlington for RMT/Chiro/Physio treatment. I finally decided that I would look for a place closer to home. I called TPHC ahead of my appointment to confirm a few details, including whether they were able to provide direct billing. When you're going to a clinic 3-4 times a week, it's a lot easier when the clinic has direct billing. I let them know my insurance info, and that this was a requirement for me. They confirmed that they were able to do so. \n\nI arrived for my massage with Nicki a few minutes early to fill out new patient forms. The receptionist was pretty unpleasant, but then again who comes to a clinic for the friendly receptionist? Nicki was personable and asked good questions about problem areas. Mine happen to be my neck and upper back. She has a very different approach than most other RMT's/physio's/AT's I've seen. She uses lots of quick movements which are moderately painful. In my experience, reasonable pain can be a part of good treatment, especially active release/etc so I wasn't put off. Unfortunately the uncomfortable massage didn't really yield any noticeable results. Nicki did recommend two stretches for me to do which both my physic's have also recommended, so in my non-medical opinion this would seem to indicate that she has some good knowledge of the body. I would say that the good RMT's I've been to previously have been able to work out the knots and help to reduce/prevent migraines. There wasn't anything bad about this massage, it just wasn't great. \n\nAfter my massage, I provided my insurance info and to the receptionist. She advised that she couldn't process the direct billing and that their must be something wrong with my insurance. I've never had this problem before so I called my insurance company to confirm my information. The insurance company confirmed my info and said there should be no problem - they also advised the receptionist that TPHC could send a paper bill in and this would be reimbursed as I have plenty of available room in my coverage. The receptionist was unexpectedly really rude and advised that there was nothing she could do. I get it, sometimes technology doesn't work so I paid for my service and asked if there was anything they could do for further appointments and she said no, either the system works or it doesn't and zero other options exist. She said that either the system lets her type in the insurance info or it doesn't and there is no one who can fix the software. The receptionist said that the software only works sometimes so they don't know whose will go through and whose won't. It wasn't the content of her response that got to me, it was more her tone and complete refusal to assist. I'm not a person who is easily bothered or disgruntled, but I was a bit taken aback by her tone and attitude. She was young and likely part-time so this job probably isn't her life's dream, but she is really doing a disservice to this clinic. More than anything else, my experience with this receptionist is the reason I will continue to look for another clinic. Impolite receptionists I can handle, but unprofessional and unhelpful I can't. If the software is as unpredictable as she says, the clinic really should stop advertising that they provide direct billing. It's not a big hassle to submit receipts, but don't say you can provide a service if you can't. Overall, I would've gone back to see Nicki again and given better instruction about what I was looking for (I also had planned to see the physio and chiro at this clinic), but given the overall experience I will not. \n\nAs an aside from this lengthy novel of a review: I noticed that another reviewer commented on appointments being cut short. Nicki came to get me about 5 or so after my appointment time, and we were finished and I was dressed about 7 minutes before the scheduled end of my 1 hour massage appointment. This didn't bother me at the time because I know how unpredictable RMT schedules are - maybe she had back-to-back appointments/etc. I also find that once you've been seeing someone awhile sometimes appointments run longer, so it all comes out in the wash."^^ .
