"If you gamble & you're interested in ACTUALLY WINNING... and you're willing to use your brain a little... or maybe you're already an experienced player... this store is almost a mandatory stop. Not quite but certain worth frequenting.\n\nThis isn't just a bookstore, folks. I'm really, really surprised that there aren't more reviews for this place. I suppose Yelp is more of a foodie's review site... but the Gambler's Book Shop is the most famous bookstore in Las Vegas. I would have thought more people would have visited and reviewed! I've visited a few times... and I ordered through their online store otherwise. \n\nSo why wouldn't you just order the same books from Amazon?\n\n1) \"OUT-OF-PRINT\" BOOKS\nBesides having all the ol' standbys, like Doyle Brunson's Super System or Don Schlesinger's Blackjack Attack, Gambler's Bookstore often has books that you won't find listed on Amazon. Stuff that's drifted out of print, stuff that's hidden on the shelves, stuff that you'd never otherwise know about. It's there.\n...Example: While you're there, ask if you can see a copy of \"Beyond Counting\", by James Grosjean - a book which had only 500 copies ever printed of it, but it's legendary and sells on eBay for $500/copy. Yeah... get the picture, now?\n\n2) OTHER PATRONS\nThis can be fun. Depending on who's there you might be able to eavesdrop on some interesting conversations. Smart gamblers from all over the world congregate here to thumb through the shelves or just to chat. You might even get some good advice from of a few of them that know a thing or two. \n...Who knows? If you're really lucky, you might even bump into some of the more famous folk like members of the Blackjack Hall of Fame. Maybe a WSOP finalist. Or maybe even some of the authors themselves!\n\n3) HISTORY\nThe bookstore used to be a club actually and has a long and storied history of where it came from and why it is what it is. It's been around since before the \"new Las Vegas\" (born of the 'Mirage') was created and it'll probably still be here after the \"de-themed\" Las Vegas takes hold with CityCenter, Echelon, Fountainbleu, etc.\n...if you want to see a piece of history while maybe hearing a tale or two, this is a good place to visit.\n\nWeb site: http://www.gamblersbook.com \n\nCONCLUSION:\nSpecific to the gambler, the Gambler's Book Shop is a place of legend in Vegas and a must-visit for anyone looking to \"bring down the house\".\n\n4-stars.\n\n(I can't give it the golden 5-star-stamp of approval because it's not an \"absolute-must-visit-every-trip\" locale however it's certainly great enough to visit & revisit every so often)\n\n--------------------\nINSIDER'S TIP: \"The Fourth Reason to Visit the Gambler's Book Shop\"\n4) HOWARD\nHoward Schwartz is the shop proprietor and the ORIGINAL FOUNDER of the Gambler's Book Shop. He's almost always there and is the keeper of the store's history as well as being a sharp mind in gaming. He can tell you what's new and what's a classic, maybe even give you some advice himself, or refer you to someone in the store."^^ . . "2"^^ . "2009-01-16T00:00:00"^^ .
