On a recent visit back to the 'burgh, I met up with some friends to recollect and enjoy some vegetarian-friendly fare.\n\nThe Double Wide has a cool vibe because of the refurbished garage/gas station environment. The memorabilia and decor capitalize on the history, so there's plenty of old gas-station signs, old oil cans, old hubcaps (...you get the idea) to look at.\n\nThe menu also playfully embraces the location's history, with plenty of old-time diner options, BBQ, and burgers. The twist, of course, is that there are plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. Tofu and seitan abound.\n\nThe outdoor seating provides the perfect vantage point for people-watching and for observing all the craziness and/or quirkiness of Carson Street. \n\nWhile this is all fine and good, there's really nothing spectacular about the food or service. The greeters and waitress weren't particularly cheery, and the food is a bit underwhelming. I suppose if I was a vegetarian, I'd be much more delighted. Still, it's an okay place to check out, especially if you're visiting the South Side. Try to get a table outdoors when the weather's nice (and when Pittsburgh experiences a rare sunny day)."^^ .
