"1"^^ . "My wife and I have been going go Bandera for over 20 years ... since it first opened. You can tell they take great pains to train their staff, although not inexpensive, the drinks are excellent and food good ... except for a major mistake they just made. We LOVED their mashed potatoes. I have several times gone to Bandera only their side of mashed potatoes and a drink at the bar. It was worth the trip. Now they cheapened the potatoes ... a creamy mush of nothing special even when compared to other much less expensive restaurants. I assume this was done to cut the prep cost in the kitchen to improve the profit margin ... i.e. Less labor and cheaper ingredients. I would gladly pay an extra buck or two for the old mashed potatoes ... I will not even even order the new ones again. Tonight I had them take mine back and remove the cost from my check. What else are they going to change to cheapen the food experience ... is there new management??? They may have lost a long time local resident customer. If they do that to their unmatched mashed potatoes of the past, what else are they planning to do to cheapen the quality of their food in the hope their past reputation will fool their customers . Often this is a slippery slope to mediocrity and the beginning of the end for a formerly well-run restaurant. Sadly I have seen it too many times over the years. It makes me sad because it is unnecessary ... a self-inflicted wound and a loss of a formerly wonderful restaurant experience. I will try you again, Bandera, but you are on probation."^^ .
