I had heard very little about Graze before dining there on a Tuesday night. Esthetically, the space is beautiful. Some won't love the street exposure and the boomy acoustics, but it worked for me. Going to a new restaurant, I tend to be very forgiving of most things. I don't expect food to come out expeditiously, I don't expect service to be 100% and I don't even expect the food to be 100%. I'm always willing to give a new restaurant a second and usually a third chance. I will give Graze a second opportunity, but wanted to share my experiences. We were graciously welcomed into Graze, but from there things really went downhill. \n\nFor appetizers we order the pretzel and deviled eggs. They took forever to come out- but were acceptably tasty. My friend then ordered a Cosmo- which the three of us at the table agreed was pretty harsh. We brought it to the attention of our server who proposed \"adding cranberry juice,\" rather than simply acknowledging that it wasn't acceptable and making a new drink. From here this left a pretty sour taste in all of our mouths. Glasses of wine were served at what I would roughly estimate at 6oz- which is fine if that is the standard practice at Graze. Other tables seemed to get a more generous serving which is disappointing if there is not consistency. While I'm happy to pay for a wonderful (small) drink amidst an otherwise great experience, I was unwilling to order a second or third glass of wine at $9 a glass for a 6oz glass of wine and huffy service. I ordered the Bahn Mi sandwich; it was nothing special and was served with an unappealing mountain of fries (not listed on the menu). I get that this is a 'gastro pub'- but if I want fries I will order them. The Bahn Mi pales into comparison to the Bahn Mi served by the Mermaid Cafe on Willy Street. My friends seemed equally unimpressed and kept sharing the comment that the Old Fashioned had better food that was less expensive and better drinks that were less expensive. \n\nIf the service had been even slightly better, it would have been easier to overlook the questionable menu choices that we made. We did ask for guidance from our server- but got little help. Additionally, the cheese curds were not available and we were not informed of this until we placed the order. \n\nWhen my friend asked for recommendations on what was recommended for the preparation on his burger, the server fired back with, \"Well, how would you normally order a burger.\" Really??? \n\nA few in the room were ordering the cookies with milk after dinner. I would have loved to try it, but was already annoyed that we had already spent so much and recieved so little. \n\nGraze, we will be back. But not for a couple months. I hope and want you to be successful- we need outstanding restaurants in Madison in outstanding spaces. Tonight, we felt like we would have received better service at a TGIFs. \n\nI rarely tip less than 20% in Madison. Tonight, we struggled to justify a 10% tip."^^ . "2"^^ . "0"^^ . .
