It was the high Yelp ratings that brought me to her and I would hate for someone else to experience anything similar.\n\nI visited her office last August with a painful tooth needing a crown and to have my 6 month teeth cleaning. After the first visit she indeed said my tooth needed a crown and that the tooth next to it had a cavity that needed filling. She started the work that day and prepared my tooth for the crown while filling the cavity on the tooth next to it. \n\nWhen I came back to get the final crown put on and to have my teeth cleaned, the hygienist cleaning my teeth knocked the filing out of the tooth next to where the crown was to go. I was pretty shaken by this but was told that is common with a filing on a side of a tooth. Once the tooth had a new filing, Dr. Chen put the permanent crown on. The crown was much too big for the area, so much so that she had to file most of the surface of the crown down, leaving just a flat area. After three days of incredible pain I had to return to have more of the crown filed down. At this point she said that the crown would have to be redone as it did not fit properly. She said that this must have been an error at the laboratory that created the crown. \n\nWhen I returned again to have the second crown put on, the same problem occurred; the crown was much too large for the area and after an hour in the chair and grinding more and more of the surface of the crown away, she started grinding away the surface of the tooth below it. At this point I was shaken and angry. She did not consult me before removing the surface of the tooth below this crown. In addition to that she blamed the laboratory once again for the error and said that their instruction to her was to remove tooth surface below the crown to ensure it would fit properly. \n\nWhen I left the office, I not only had a poorly fitting crown, but I could insert my finger nail between the surface of the tooth and the crown. She left huge margins; which means the crown NEVER FIT IN THE FIRST PLACE and she was grinding away at the tooth below it to MAKE IT FIT.\n\nThis was hands down the worst dental care I have ever received. While she later refunded me for the work she did on the crown, it will never make up for the pain that was caused nor will it make up for the missing tooth surface she took the liberty of grinding away without consulting me. \n\nI had to go to another dentist to correct this error and have a third crown put on. I am happy to say that they got it right the first time and the fit was perfect. However, the poor tooth having gone through the trauma of a temporary crown, and two permanent crowns that both had to be removed, I am sad to report that it is still painful to bite on that side of my mouth.\n\nI reported Dr. Chen to my insurance company and filed a formal complaint with them. In addition, I tried to file a complaint with the Arizona Chapter of the ADA only to find that she is not a member. \n\nI only hope my story helps the next Yelp reader be fully informed before they trust their dental care to Dr. Chen. A refund has not made up for the pain she has caused and I would hate to see anyone else go through a similar situation."^^ .
