Cleopatra Cafe is one of Montreal's finest genuine, full contact strip clubs. Okay, perhaps not the finest. You see, to understand Cleo's you need to understand that there are several types of stripper personalities: Some are students, stripping for money to pay for law school (I know they ALL say this, but I suppose some of them are actually telling the truth). There the single mothers, stripping to buy diapers until another guy comes along who's 'more the marrying type.' There are the girls who are long on looks but short on brains. Then there are the lifers: stripping isn't a job for these women, it's a career. And they've been doing it for a LONG time. These women don't strip just for the money - they truly ENJOY their work. And their enthusiasm shows in the quality of their work. That being said, the most noticeable attribute of Cleopatra Café is the unusually high number of lifers. One dancer in particular was an older Latin lady. She was a little hard on the eyes, and you could tell she'd been around the block once or twice. But I was certain that her considerable experience would translate into one hell of a private dance. So I called her over and bought a dance for the bachelor whose upcoming marriage was the reason for our Montreal excursion. Ten minutes later he emerged from the private booth walking a little crooked but grinning like a Cheshire cat. He sat down, pointed to his ear and asked, "Am I bleeding?" That's the kind of experience you'll get at Cleo. Otherwise, the atmosphere and facilities at Cleopatra are a bit run down, just like the dancers. But a visit here is certainly an experience you'll remember.
