Here's the conversation that led me here:
"Let's get some dessert."
"Sure!"
"Trust me you'll like it. Let's go to Made By Marcus"
[ Internally thinking what a weird name for a dessert shop ]
"Uh ok. What is it?"
"It's an ice cream shop."
"Uh....you know its -3C right now right?"
Anyways, I'm glad I didn't let my logical thought process talk my friends out of coming here. Made by Marcus probably has some of the best hip flavors I've had in the ice cream world and coming from Austin, TX that's saying something. The ice cream is smooth, lush and creamy and massively portioned.
I opted just for a single scoop cone and I think for just about anyone that is plenty of sugar for you. They have great rotational flavors - my personal favorite is lemon curd blueberry - nice citrusy tang, blueberry pop - fruity and delicious. Close second was the carrot cake with a nice nutty, assertive carrot flavor.
And if that's not tantalizing enough for you, they have some great sundaes too that are creative as they get. I laughed when I saw the Happy Camper - they blowtorch a marshmallow for you that is quite the spectacle. The Unicorn is a colorful soft serve with strands of cotton candy, an upside down dipped cone that evokes childhood dreams. And the Breakfast of Champions has to be a nostalgic blast from the past made with Cereal Milk soft serve - yep that same milk that comes from your soggy cereal in the morning resurrected in ice cream form.
Made by Marcus is exceptionally creative and backs up their ice cream with the same exceptional quality and even if it is subzero temperature, I can't wait to come back next time I'm in Calgary.
