On the plus side, hertz was very flexible with letting me rent and return from different locations. I made a reservation for a car rental for a weekend in dufferton, but it turned out that location was going to be closed early for some sort of bizarre Canadian holiday and closed early that afternoon, even tho the website didn't reflect this... They let me switch to the Toronto airport at the same rate! yay!
until i get to the airport hertz and they tell me they are nailing me with a 60 dollar premium location service charge. Instead of getting a car rental for 20 dollars a day, it was 30 dollars a day. i had no backup reservation with another company, so i guess that is another harsh lesson. The good news, they let me return the car to a downtown location at no charge because it worked out to be more flexible. otherwise they would get 1 star. but it doesn't matter really, i would have rented from another company for a lower price if i knew all of this ahead of time. i checked with both locations and they said i would get the same rate. whoops!
I have no complaints about the car, or customer service aside from getting jacked up fees. ofc, their company is known for adding stackable coupons, which is why i ended up getting a car from a high end company for (what was originally) an excellent price that beat out the junk/shady rental car places
