UPDATE: We had a chance to offer feedback to Marriott about our bad experience through their online review page. They have been very gracious, and reached out to offer us a chance to stay again. We will give it another try - who knows, maybe they were just having a bad day...... we have a few too! Anyway, based on their sincerity in wanting to make things right, we have upgraded from 1 star to 3 stars for now. Once we have re-lived the experience, we will rate again and are hopeful that we will have a fabulous time and are able to offer 4 or 5 stars.
