Social media led me to Scoop Shop by Sweet Sammies, as it has a way of getting me to go out of my way to eat at places I might otherwise not have gone out of the way to try. The verdict: oh my yummy goodness! Why had I not tried this earlier! Sweet Sammies a tiny store. Seating wise they had one bench inside and a small child-sized bench in front of the store on which you can park yourself and eat your frozen treats. They have about a dozen flavours per day. At the time they had kulfi, mint chip, Belgian chocolate, hazelnut milk chocolate, salted caramel, as well as strawberry coconut vegan ice creams to name a few. They did have several pints for takeaway in the freezer for $9 (tax in), including pistachio ice cream. As per their moniker, they offer ice cream sandwiches ($5.95 ), as well as waffle cones, affogados, milkshakes, floats, sundaes, and other daily specials. The texture and flavour of the ice cream is fantastic and has this indescribable stretch when you're scooping up spoonfuls of the stuff. The staff was patient as we sampled our way to a decision about what to buy. Hubby and I shared a double scoop cup ($4.95) of Belgian chocolate ice cream and vegan strawberry coconut. The strawberry flavour was refreshing and was surprisingly creamy and perhaps due to the coconut milk. You could tell they used dark chocolate as the Belgian chocolate flavour was one of the most intensely chocolatey ice creams I've ever tasted. Caveat: the ice cream (chocolate faster than the vegan flavour) melted fast so hubby and I had chocolate ice cream all over our hands (but what ice cream doesn't melt on a hot oven like day?) I am definitely looking forward to coming back to try their ice cream sammies and hopefully their Ontario blueberry and pistachio flavours.
