Hidden fees are the name of the game at Pheonix Car Rental. Now I'm actually satisfied with my overall experience here: I'd rather rent from an independent comapred to the corporate megoliths over at the airport. I knew I'd get a used car and indeed I got the most beat up used car you could imagine (150,000 miles, worn out everything, sloshing water in one headlight). I was good with that. But the hidden fees! $12 for cleaning, $2.50 for "S/C", $3 for "pkg", and the kicker was the 'complimentary' airport pickup was apparently $12 each way. Then there's "tax and surcharge" at $19.55%. The other guys charge a lot of fees and taxes also: but they disclose them. Don't rent from Pheonix Car Rental without getting a bottom line price via email or fax before stepping on their lot. Also note: if you're a smoker, this may be your place for car rentals: they don't seem to care. On March 5, 2014 the Arizona Attorney General's office announced it was taking action against this family of firms for fraud (Saban's Rent-A-Car, D S Rentco,A-AAAble Rental Ltd. and Phoenix Car Rental).
