I had never had any issues with my teeth before coming here 6 months ago. My hygenist was an older blonde lady with (typically) flawless teeth that she has doubtlessly spent thousands of dollars on. She rudely and derisively chided me for my less than perfect teeth while basically calling me a liar when I told her that I brush and floss daily. She acted like she was disgusted by the fact that she had to clean my teeth. Mind you, up until that point I had never had a cavity. I told her my teeth naturally accumulate a lot of plaque and tartar, hence the reason for my visit. She then recommended that I get more frequent cleanings. I told her my insurance only covers 2 per year and that I had never had any dental issues before so I would stick with 2 per year. She then (surprise!) proceeds to find THREE cavities in my previously cavity-less mouth. The little asian dentist stops in for about 5 minutes to concur (of course) and goes on her way. Since I had never had a cavity before I was unaware of the different types of fillings or what is covered or the potential costs. The lady at the front desk tells me I'll owe $300. I'm like "okay :/). Later I find out that they never even told me I could get the metal fillings and have them 100% covered by insurance! Luckily I called back and was able to get the metal fillings. I thought maybe this was just one bad experience and went ahead and scheduled another appointment, hoping for a different hygenist next time. After all, this place has great google reviews. Boy was I ever wrong! My last visit was on March 23rd. Once again I get stuck with the rude blonde older hygenist. I told her that I had been experiencing some minimal bleeding when I floss. When I asked her why this might be happening since I am dilligent with home care, she tells me "mouth breathing" can be a cause. Mouth breathing?!?!?! Really??? I can't be sure if this woman was trying to insult me or if she is just a base, tactless person, but it set a really bad tone for the rest of the exam. She immediately starts roughly digging into my gums, causing them (surprise!) to bleed, all while making veiled comments suggesting that my mouth disgusted her. She then refused to clean my teeth and told me that I have periodontal disease and that my entire mouth needed a "deep cleaning". The little asian dentist comes in and once again (surprise!) concurs. So they send me to the front desk and I get told that the deep cleaning is not covered by insurance and will cost $1300. I told her that since I had NEVER had ANY dental issues prior to visiting door creek, and due to the prohibitive cost of the deep cleaning, I would be seeking a second opinion. So the next day on 3/24/16 I visited oak park dental. My hygenist there was very gental and understanding. She reassured me that plaque and tartar build up is very common and nothing to be ashamed of or grossed out about. The best part was when she told me that my entire mouth did not require a deep cleaning. The dentist concurred. She also told me that I could get a regular cleaning only if thats what I wanted, but she recommended the deep cleaning. I was able to get the deep cleaning done THAT DAY for $700. So I saved $600 just by NOT going to door creek. Door creek dental is shady and over diagnoses. They also have at least one very rude and tactless hygenist. I tell everyone I can to steer clear of this place.
