I'm not from Montreal but whenever I'm in Chinatown I drop in here for cheap steamed dumplings, which are under the canister. Best part is that you can pick individually which dumplings (har gow, shumai, fun gaw) you want, which are 90cents cad each. Thus you can get an assorted mix and taste each.
Speaking Chinese here is helpful. In addition I would avoid getting the steamed dumplings in the late afternoon or evening as they are likely from the morning and dried out.
I see plenty of Chinese elderly folks getting the steamed buns.
