This store, along with its Bloor/ Spadina store has been supplying most of my vegan/ vegetarian goods for the last 5-6 years. Although my fave location is their Bloor/ Spadina store, this store always come to my rescue when I'm running late and need to get something healthy to eat ASAP. Like this Saturday for instance, I was heading south on Yonge towards Front street to get to the Novotel for my 4:30pm call time for a BIG fashion show that evening. I knew I was going to be hungry backstage, during hair/ make-up applications, or while waiting for the show to start or after the show. Although I was told that the hotel will be providing models with food, I really wasn't expecting them to have anything vegan-friendly for me to munch on, so I went to Noah's on my way to location. This Noah's is smaller and have less stuff than the Bloor/ Spadina location. It also doesn't have my first and only true love: the grind-yer-own peanut butter machine (formally called "the peanut butter queen" -that should be MY title, cos I buy freshly ground peanut butter practically every week). However, it does have my fave samosa in the world: a baked whole wheat, spinach and tofu samosa. In the past, they kept mixing up the spinach and tofu samosa with the hot samosa (baked whole wheat samosa with veggies, err potato mostly), but I had no time on Saturday, so I took my chances. It turned out that I was right, the Novotel did not provide any vegan-friendly snacks, in fact they forgot to provide models with any food! (That's one way to stay slim, haha, bad joke =D I am not encouraging anorexia.) I was so glad I'd picked up the samosa prior to the show. I finally got to have my "dinner" at 12 midnight -when I was finally wrapped and on the subway heading home. It was YUMMY and totally satisfying! But I knew that already, cos I've had this samosa on numerous occasions. It's packed full of spinach and firm tofu, slightly seasoned with salt and perhaps other spices. AND it tasted great cold -in fact I've always had it cold. As mentioned, it is not fried like most conventional samosas, but baked in a whole wheat flour shell.... the whole wheat is a nice touch (whole wheat = fibre!), but the fact that it's BAKED instead of fried is the real superstar feature of this hunger relief vegan good. NEWS FLASH: They have new dessert products, the most intriguing is the RAW key-lime pie... made mostly with lime, avocados, dates and nuts. Obviously I didn't buy it cos I was due to look amazing on the catwalk and desserts and models should not mix prior to a show. It was the most interesting of the new raw pies Noah's now carry (other flavours: apple and strawberry) because I've never seen a key-lime pie GREEN before. I like raw vegan desserts and I've made raw vegan desserts before, so I'll definitely go back to Noah's for a key-lime pie in the near future... probably in mid-December, I'm booked for the rest of this month.
