Wow. This place totally lives up to the reviews and then some. The music, the decor, the ambiance, it's all genuine, campy fun. Here's my rundown:
The high points:
- Brooklyn the door man, his lovely hostess and THE MAGICIAN! Super cool people.
- Great drinks with real amounts of booze. None of the watered down crap poured in casinos and on Fremont Street.
- Very cool kitschy ambiance. Fantastic artwork and relics. Apparently many were owned by THE Hunter S. Thompson (look him up, kiddos).
- Good mix of people. Younger, older, non-hipster types and just really nice people looking for a good time without causing trouble.
- Awesome jazz band on Thursday and a dance floor made our night.
- The location is fantastic. Try some dumplings after your umbrella drink fest, that way you won't be so hungover in the morning.
- Music is loud but you can hide away in the back on comfy couches if you want to chat.
The low points:
- The two twenty-something male bartenders on the Thursday night we visited. Both made excellent drinks, but lacked any personality or charm. Neither attempted to socialize with patrons and both appeared to lack any motivation for being there other than getting a paycheck out of it. Replace those two guys and this bar would be stellar.
I have to say though, this place was the highlight of our stay in Vegas. We'll be back!
