We decided to try Beckett's Table because the reviews are generally good and we were going to be on the east side of town. Clearly, after reading about the short ribs we had to try that. We also ordered the salmon and, as an appetizer, the mac and cheese.
Service was fair - Both my husband and I had difficulty understanding the server because he spoke quietly and we couldn't hear him over the background music. (The music was not too loud.) He didn't tell us the daily special, but I heard what it was from the waiter for the table next door.
We each had a glass of wine. I had something that I'd had in the past so I was satisfied with it, but my husband was less satisfied with his selection -- certainly not the fault of the restaurant.
The mac and cheese - a rather large portion for an appetizer. I enjoyed it very much but my husband was put off by the mustard seed in the sauce. The dish is topped off with pancetta, and our server asked us if we wanted that or not. I noticed that other reviewers have been unhappy that they were not asked. I wondered if that changed the policy of always including it because I noticed the next door table server also asked his table if the pancetta was okay. If you are a light eater, you could certainly order the mac and cheese as a meal, as it was a substantial portion.
The meal -- Short ribs - yes, we have to agree they are extremely tasty! I just had a taste off of my husband's plate but it was delicious--very tender and flavorful. The salmon - was good but nothing to knock your socks off. I always tell myself, "don't order something that you make at home", because it's hard to surpass what you make yourself and love. So I'm going to qualify this with it was prepared exactly as I asked. The accompaniment was unusual - quinoa and spinach with edamame, served cold, which was a little odd under the hot salmon. Not bad, just unexpected.
We were on our way to an event so we by-passed dessert.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Beckett's Table, and will go there again when I have the opportunity and the occasion to be in the area.
