We originally hired Chuparosa Painting to paint the exterior of our home. The crew finished the job quicker than expected, did a nice job on the exterior paint work, and did it all at a competitive price. For exterior paint work, I believe Chuparosa Painting can be called upon to provide a decent service at a decent price.
Because we were happy with their previous work, we inquired about a quote for interior painting. Our overall experience on the interior job was so poor, that I do not recommend Chuparosa Painting for any interior work based on the reasons below (A - D).
Please note that the 3-star rating above is based on the combined exterior, and interior, jobs. It is also reflective of Mr. Stewart's attempt to reconcile differences after my original review was posted. Though too little, too late, it is commendable that Mr. Stewart attempted to make amends.
A) The owner, Hugh Stewart, initially provided us with a quote, written but still off-the-cuff, for $2,200 then raised his price to $2,500 after we picked our final paint colors and asked him to begin work.
Please note that no requirements of the job, or materials, had changed. Mr. Stewart claimed that doors and trim were not originally discussed, however, doors and trim were always included in our job request. Trusting that Mr. Stewart legitimately needed the extra cash to complete the job, we obliged.
B) Our things were disrespected during the paint job (jewelry organizer dropped and left lying on floor with jewelry in piles, clothes hamper stuffed with boots/purse/books, shoes covered in paint spray, car covered in paint spray, plantation shutters covered in paint spray, etc.) and when Mr. Stewart was notified of this, he became defensive rather than sympathetic, making excuses for why these things occurred.
C) Once the job was finished we had a list of 13 'touch-ups', which we deemed significant and an overall representation of poor workmanship, communication, and management within Chuparosa Painting.
D) Mr. Stewart promised to fix all of the problems above. He told us that the work would take a 'couple of hours'.
His crew returned on a Saturday. The crew of 2 men (3 were promised) showed up to the house late, as they drove to the wrong house before making it to ours.
Mr. Stewart had not communicated, in advance, the work to be performed. Thus, after arrival, Mr. Stewart gave the crew a copy of our documented touch-ups, minimal instructions, and left the worksite. Mr. Stewart essentially abandoned the job, leaving my husband and I to supervise, direct, and even perform the rework required. When asked when he would return to the job because we needed his assistance, Mr. Stewart responded to say that he wouldn't be back and whatever it was we needed, we should just work with the crew directly.
After approximately 6 hours we had to stop the rework for an unrelated appointment (that we had previously notified Mr. Stewart of). The crew said they would be back to finish the outstanding issues on Monday. Monday morning came and went, the crew never showed.
When we reached out to Mr. Stewart, he said that we were wrong, the crew hadn't told us Monday, and that they were too busy to come back until maybe several days later. At that point we decided it would be better to finish the work ourselves than allow Mr. Stewart and his crew to continue wreaking havoc on our schedules, our sanity, and our house.
For all of the reasons above, I do not recommend Chuparosa Painting for interior paint work. In my opinion, Mr. Stewart lacks the professionalism, quality standards, and management skills to satisfactorily provide professional interior paint services to the community.
