A previous reviewer mentioned the absence of conversation. That was certainly true of my visit. And while this lack of chit-chat bordered on brusqueness, I can't complain about the end results. My coiffeuse worked at a swift, but precise pace. She was a bit rough, but, gentle enough when it came to the straight razor, thankfully.
Seems the student rate has experienced a slight inflation from 2008. She rang me up at 17$. When I asked about the discount, she repeated 17$. So either she assumed I was a student -- the place is basically across the street from McGill -- or I was hosed.
Either way, can't argue with a decent cut at that price in downtown Montréal. Considering I have a hard time communicating (or even deciding upon) how I want my hair cut in English, I was especially anxious about finding a place in a city where the default language is French.
All things considered, I think they've found a new monthly customer. Better to stick with a place that's a star short of perfection, than to keep rolling the dice, I say.
