I'd heard rumors of an old school joint, a real classic, hidden somewhere just off the Vegas strip. I'd heard friends mumble the words "Herbs & Rye" after visiting Sin City, and with less than 24 hours there, I had to find out what all the hub bub was all about. Pulling up, the building is totally unassuming. Free standing, dark, with a big sign in black and red, "Herbs & Rye". It didn't feel old or new, but it was comfortable, and somehow felt like home instantly. The music was thumpin, and the sounds of electro swing filled the room. The bar was loud, but not overwhelming, only loud enough to make you want to speak louder to be heard. The vibe was incredibly friendly, regular, but super vibrant and boisterous at the same time. Cocktails were totally classic, and the bartenders were fast, efficient, and damn good at their jobs. A "Blood and Sand" for me, "Last Word" for pops, and a scotch on a mighty big rock for our friend. Everything was great and I even showed my dad, a fervent neat spirits drinker, that cocktails can honor the spirits inside. The vibe alone would be reason to come back for dinner, but this is the kind of place I'd like to drink in every night!
