The Yoga Sanctuary is just that: a refuge from busy city life. The atmosphere is calm, serene and the studio -- complete with hardwood floors, brick walls, and high ceilings -- is warm and welcoming, and has a definite bohemian charm. Apart from the occasional blast of car horns drifting in from The Danforth, the place is perfectly quiet and conducive to blissful meditation. My favourite classes are probably those taught by Anne-Marie Hood: she brings out your inner goddess with a mix of stretching, core work, relaxation and inspiring poetry in motion... but every class I have tried here has been great! This is a great spot if you are serious about building a regular practice: the small, intimate space makes for a great atmosphere, and there is a wonderful sense of community. The studio's only shortcomings are small change-rooms, and the absence of lockers. If not for that, this place would get five shiny gold stars: the instructors are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and passionate; the retail area carries top-of-the-line mats, clothing and props that will make you drool; the schedule has something for everyone; and the studio's location right at Broadview and Danforth is perfect for yogis on the go. All in all, The Yoga Sanctuary is my favourite yoga studio in Toronto.
