This trail is a really nice change of pace compared to the over crowed camelback mountain and super packed piestawa peak. These are the two trails I hike frequently and I would rate toms thumb moderate compared to those that in my opinion are tougher. There are a few difficult points that end quickly and the views are definitely worth it. The trails are very well marked which is great because it's a pretty secluded hike compared to the other Phoenix city hikes. I saw no more than 25 hikers today on my almost 5 mile RT. I would compare this to south mountain. Gorgeous. I will be back to explore the other trails.
You can access the trial from Happy valley road. Take it north to 128th st and follow the signs.
