I don't like the same-old 12 plants that every Home Depot and Lowes sets out for gardeners. Most of the times their staff have little insight or know the actual identity of the plants they sell. If a garden center employee doesn't know the difference between a species and a cultivar, they're telling you whatever you want to hear to make a sale.
I visited again this spring, and I noticed the amount of plants they sell is much smaller (and more Home Depot-like in diversity).
Plants are overpriced. Coleus should never cost more than $2, especially considering how easy they are to grow from cuttings...
It also doesn't pay to call ahead to ask if they have a certain plant or specific variety, since they just put you on hold, and then say, "yes we have it." Then you go in, only to realize they DON"T have it, never did, and weren't planning on getting any in.
