This was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a while. There are tons of neat, delicious, places to eat around the Queen City, but Let's Meat KBBQ is definitely in the top tier.
We arrived at the restaurant around 8:30 Saturday night and they said it would be about a thirty to forty minute wait before we could be seated. Not ideal, but it was the weekend and the place was packed. Undeterred we decided to walk up the block to Unknown Brewery to kill some time and were happily surprised to get our "ready to be seated" text earlier than expected (maybe twenty five minutes?). We made our way back and were promptly shown to our table.
Walking past the counter in to the dining area you can really appreciate the look of the place. Super simple, super clean, just enough character. The walls are about 80% just plain white stone, but there are a few super colorful Asian themed murals scattered about. One wall (right behind our table) also had a projector with what seemed to be a little how to video for the tabletop grills. The seating itself and the table dividers are unstained clear coated wood and the tables seem to be granite with a just bigger than dinner plate sized flat top grill in the middle.
We were quickly greeted by our wonderful waiter Green (yes like the color) who took our drink orders and began to explain the menu and process for ordering and cooking everything. Our drinks came out quickly along with all the accouterments for the meal. Salad, perfectly cooked rice, Kim chi, no less than four different sauces, radish, corn cheese bowls, marinated tofu, lettuce wraps and a few different sprouts. They really want to make sure you have options once the meat hits the table, and hit the table it did.
We tried so many wonderful things it's hard to keep track of it all. We started with the Standard Pork Belly. If you like a nice fatty piece of bacon this will be heaven for you, and since you're in charge of cooking your own food, you can make it as just as crispy as you want. (We also tried the garlic pork belly and wine pork belly!) Then it was time for the Spicy Chicken. Really flavorful but honestly not as good as their other options. The true gems though were of the cow variety. The Fatty Beef Brisket was outstanding. Super thin slices of wonderfully marbled meat, just sear, dip and enjoy. It was almost like if you took the thinly sliced/shaved meat off of a philly cheesesteak and dipped it into a world of wonderful Korean flavors.
I thought it couldn't get any better than the brisket, then we ordered the Beef Bulgogi. Oh boy. You can't go wrong with any of the items we tried, but the Beef Bulgogi is something you can sit down and get lost in the flavor of, and easily lose track of how much you've eaten. It's sort of similar to the brisket in appearance, thin (though not super thin) pieces of meat, but you can tell the difference in smell as soon as it hits the grill. The Bulgogi is marinated in a variation of the house sauce (one of the four you get with all your sides and things) and it is so damn delicious. I'm not sure if the meat is just more tender from the marinade, or the sauce really is just that delicious, but I could order nothing save for that one item and be perfectly happy. Those tiny pieces of beef are truly worth the price of admission.
This dinner was such a wonderful experience. Green always kept our drinks full, made sure our food always came out quickly and had no problem providing some friendly chit-chat along the way. I haven't had an overall dining experience this pleasant in some time. I imagine some might be turned off by the price but it really is worth every penny. The amount and quality of food provided, along with the wonderful staff and atmosphere makes this place a real treasure. Please, do yourself a favor and come visit this place. You will be so glad you did.
