This place is a 5 star property, no question about it. The minute you get there you're awed by the beautiful decor from the entrance, to the check in lobby, to your room. I got a city side room which was on a higher floor with an almost unobstructed view of the mountains. The room had floor to ceiling windows, it was very modern and a deep bath tub that fit two people comfortably. However, though most of the hotel staff was courteous and professional, I had something that happened to me on 2 instances during my stay that has never happened to me before. On 2 occasions, whilst entering the premises, the doorman inquired about me being a guest once and a second time a receptionist inquired about me being a guest. I've stayed at a few 4 & 5 star establishments and never have I been offended with inquiries about me being a guest especially when I have to use my key card to even take the elevator to my room. I gave the Mandarin 4 stars because it's a beautiful property with a mostly exceptional staff and I know 2 bad apples doesn't reflect the exceptional service I received from everyone else but I hope the Mandarin addresses this problem because it can be offensive to a paying guest.
